From Bestiary of the Hypogriph

Template:Deity Almonohuim is the force of nature associated with sands, deserts, serpents and treasures, who serves as the patron god of the Lizardfolk, the Serpentfolk and the Lamias.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Almonohuim resembles a colossal hooded snake whose scales are made out of gold. A pair of large, curved horns grow from the sides of his head and his tail ends in a spiked rattle. Boulders of many sizes have become stuck into his scales due to his burrowing.

History[edit | edit source]

Almonohuim is an ancient being, reported to have existed during the time of the Primordials. He created the Serpentfolk to serve as guardians of his lair, and never showed any interest in world affairs. There is no evidence that Almonohuim was involved in the Great Gap.

Realm[edit | edit source]

Almonohuim claims a small canyon in Merovaren as his home. The region, known as Serpent's Throne, houses both the demigod and his Serpentfolk servants, who have built settlements around it. Some of these have fallen into ruin over the centuries, allowing some form of exploration for outsiders. None but the followers of Almonohuim are allowed within the Throne at the threat of death by the Serpentfolk.

Personality[edit | edit source]

The Golden Serpent is a haughty and prideful deity, indulging in the worship of mortals, who he considers lesser beings. He is also fond of amassing treasure, and is generally seen resting upon a massive golden hoard he has accumulated over the millenia. Almonohuim's great pride means he rarely, if ever admits his mistakes, and is quite easy to provoke or anger due to never believing he is wrong.

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Due to his haughty personality, Almonohuim does not believe other beings are equal to him. As such, he sees all other deities as rivals and never interacts with them.

Cult of Almonohuim[edit | edit source]

Almonohuim is worshipped by the Lizardfolk, the Serpentfolk and the inhabitants of Khalmartis, who see him as their patron. Temples dedicated to him are common across Merovaren and Khalmartis, where he is by far the most prominent deity. The priesthood of the Golden Serpent is strongly associated with gold, and the wealthier you are, the most favour you gain among them.
