Ythred's War, known by Mankind as the Vile War, was a conflict that resulted in the destruction of Alenreic by the combined forces of the Dwaerkar freeholds.

The conflict erupted by the ambition of Chief of Ouwestad, Medris Ythred, to topple the northern realm of Alenreic. Ythred believed that the Realm of Men represented the final threat to the Dwaerkar Order, for which reason he enlisted the aid of the freeholds to topple it.

The offensive on Alenreic, planned for several years, was executed to great success. Although Alenreic offered valiant resistance, their warriors, heavily outnumbered and vastly inferior in technology and armament, were rapidly overpowered by the armored columns of the Dwaerkar.

The war resulted in the destruction of Sallent and the Ban of Alenreic. Amidst the Dwaerkar, the war resulted in the demise of the legendary Clan Ythred, and the throne of Ouwestad passed to Clan Ÿzerhand, who assumed the Borost:Testament of Ÿphergund.

Prelude[edit | edit source]

The rise of the Dwaerkar began in earnest at the outbreak of Ÿphergund's War. By its conclusion, the Dwaerkar had become the lords of Borost. Nonetheless, the Dwaerkar were in no position to challenge the power of Borost's historic northern rival, Alenreic.

Medris Ythred, the Chief of Ouwestad and ruler of Tielsland freehold, executor of the Borost:Testament of Ÿphergund, was the first of the Dwaerkar chieftains to highlight the fact that Alenreic posed the final external challenge to their rule of Borost.

Following the dismantling of the High Kingdom, and the destruction of its primary bureaucratic and administrative organs, Dwaerkar soldiers forcibly displaced the inhabitants of the realm, citing the "dangerous proximity of the Great Swamp and the people thereof." Subsequently, the settling of the location was prohibited indefinitely, with the Serpent-folk again being cited as the reason.
