Cult of the Dragon (Firmament)

From Bestiary of the Hypogriph

Amid the smouldering ruins of the temple, the priests were crucified - the fires burned them all beyond recognition, and we had to cut the crosses down to size to bury them. Before they died, the cultists exsanguinated them - but their blood was not left to bathe the floor. The cultists took the blood...for whatever purposes, we do not know. But we knew it was them. Desecration of all things holy is what they do.

The Cult of the Dragon is religious organisation centred around the belief of Drascasur. Practitioners of inordinate violence and the desecration of the natural order, The Cult of the Dragon comprises a plethora of indoctrinated beings that serve the will of Nirgali, the intermediary force between the God of Darkness and his acolytes.

History[edit | edit source]

It is not known when the Cult of the Dragon formed, though as belief in Drascasur has existed in the world for almost nine millennia through the Skaurovirn, it may be feasible to say that cults akin to the Cult of the Dragon have existed elsewhere since the beginning of recorded history. Aurelian solar cults were known to have rooted out small cells within their cities and exterminate them, although it is understood that the Cult of the Dragon survived any attempts of extinction from their enemies.

For the most part, the Cult of the Dragon has only been known to exist in the modern countries of the world - there have been accounts of temples and shrines destroyed and their priests burned alive across the world, all owed to anonymous cultists wearing robes that bore the likeness of a dragon. Cultists that have been captured have never revealed information of their whereabouts, however have intentionally revealed insights regarding their leader, an entity named Nirgali.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Members[edit | edit source]

The Cult of the Dragon's acolytes name themselves the Anointed Ones. It is believed that the Anointed Ones are indoctrinated through the consumption of a mind-altering concoction of a dark nature that corrupts the very minds of whoever drink it. It is not known how the cultists come to be, although some have implied a suspicion that individuals in governmental circles across the world that have control over imprisoned populaces may be responsible. Most or all cultists that have been seen are humanoids. Though their minds are corrupted, the secretive nature of the Cult of the Dragon indicates that the Anointed Ones can live among others in society by choice.

Goals[edit | edit source]

The Anointed Ones do not have a known goal. As their actions tend to be religiously offensive - that is, burning down temples and slaughtering holy men in the name of Drascasur, most of their methods are terror tactics. Some more threatening instances of Anointed Ones have been known to summon demons from Penumbra. Being worshippers of the God of Destruction, their goals concerning domination and dominion over the earth appear tenuous.

Relations[edit | edit source]

The Cult of the Dragon are a reviled organisation of extremists, at least that is how they are seen by the rest of the world. Anointed Ones are innately persecuted by those who locate them, and given the circumstances, Anointed Ones intend to destroy all religious presences of other deities at any cost.
