Great Red Dragons (Firmament)
Great red dragons are among the most powerful and most terrible of all species of true dragon in Telamon.
Biology[edit | edit source]
Great red dragons are easily distinguished from their kin by their thick scales the colour of molten rock, with large, cruel horns topping their heads and a yellow-coloured underbelly. A smaller horn sprouts just behind the tips of its blunt muzzle. Their hatchlings are born as large as a fully grown horse, and over the course of one thousand years, they may reach sizes exceeding thirty meters long, weighting over a hundred tons.
Ecology[edit | edit source]
Great red dragons make their homes within warm mountainous regions. Whenever possible, a great red will lair within an active volcano. As they age, they tend to journey increasingly further from their lairs in search of humanoid settlements to terrorize.
Society[edit | edit source]
Great red dragons are rare and usually solitary, as they see others of their own kind as competition. Only the oldest and most powerful dragons are able to force others into submission, where they are treated as servants rather than equals.
Abilities[edit | edit source]
Great red dragons possess mastery over fire, to the point their oldest can breathe out flames powerful enough to hurt even creatures made of fire. A great red's flames come out as a massive cone of fire, in stronger cases being large enough to consume entire battlefields. If roused to physical combat, they sport tremendous strength and use virtually their entire bodies as a weapon, biting, clawing, lashing with its powerful tail, buffeting enemies with its monstrous wings while flying, or even flying or jumping a short distance to crush its foes beneath its immense mass. As they grow in age and wisdom, great red dragons become potent spellcasters, and their scales grow tougher and tougher until they become virtually invulnerable to lesser weapons.
