Grimdusk Dragons

From Bestiary of the Hypogriph

Template:Creature Grimdusk Dragons are a species of lesser, non-sapient dragon native to the region now known as Duskwood. Having inhabited the region since it was ruled by the Elves, they were always considered one of the more dangerous forms of wildlife there, with the Elves failing to control them despite their affinity with nature. Living Grimdusks are rare in the modern age, with most being zombie pets of the vampires who currently rule over the region.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Grimdusk Dragons are six-limbed dragons with dark green scales. Three small pairs of horns from the sides of their heads while a row of spikes grow from their necks all the way to their tails, which end in a spiked club. The average adult Grimdusk is fourteen meters long and weights six hundred kilograms.

Ecology[edit | edit source]

Grimdusk Dragons are only found in Duskwood, and even then, they are considered critically endangered; they were considered a rarity even during the time where the Elves ruled that land. They prefer to live in heavy woodland, where they may use their green scales as camouflage. They are very territorial creatures and will defend their lairs violently against intruders, with them having become even more aggressive over the years due to now sharing their woodlands with all manners of undead beasts. Their lifespan is unknown, but the Elves believe it to be around three hundred years.

Society[edit | edit source]

Grimdust Dragons are solitary creatures, only coming together to mate before parting ways once again. Due to their rarity, much of their reproductive rituals and the extent of care they give to their young is considered unknown.

Abilities[edit | edit source]

Given their large size, Grimdusk Dragons are potent fights in melee, making deadly use of their sharp teeth and claws. They also possess a breath weapon taking the form of a cone of green flame which burns flesh but notably has no effect on plant matter. Dragons who have been raised into zombies by the vampire counts of the region instead breathe out a blast of sickly purple mist which chokes the life out of animals and plants alike.
