Umbral Hulk (Firmament)

From Bestiary of the Hypogriph

Template:Creature

Umbral hulks are a species of cruel fey who thrive in abducting humanoids to create more of their own kind.

Biology[edit | edit source]

Umbral hulks possess a humanoid body stance, with blue and warty skin, large heads filled with sharp teeth, spindly limbs and powerful claws. A pair of large, moth-like wings grows from their backs and grants them flight. Umbral hulks are all male, and procreate by abducting humanoid women and forcing themselves upon them. While they may prey on any race, they have a preference for humans and orcs. The average umbral hulk is 1,7m tall and weights 70 kg.

Ecology[edit | edit source]

Umbral hulks are native to Duskwood, though their numbers have dwindled over the years due to them being hunted down by the local vampires. They prefer to live in regions of dense woodland and away from the light of the sun. When not abducting women, umbral hulks pass the time by hunting down small animals to grind their bones into marrow, or by attracting large amounts of vermin to their lair as pets and food.

Society[edit | edit source]

Umbral hulks live in ramshack huts of sticks and mud, which are made up of the hulk himself and whatever family it has managed to create. They usually make efforts to settle their territories away from each other, as they prefer not to compete with other umbral hulks over hunting grounds.

Abilities[edit | edit source]

The claws of an umbral hulk are much tougher than their spindly frame may indicate, and their bite is also very powerful. Like many fey, they possess a natural toughness only overcome by weapons made of, or enchanted with cold iron. The wings of an umbral hulk produce a paralyzing dust which they spread by their wing beats, which is their primary way of immobilizing their prey before abducting them.
